In addition to presenting Italian quality wines from various regions of the Italian peninsula, including Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tuscany, and Sardinia, among others, for the first time, this year Vinitaly India 2010 will introduce quality olive oil produced by estate members of the Consorzio Olivicolo Italiano (UNAPROL, or Consortium of Italian Olive Oil Producers), as well.

The guide published is by Touring Club Italiano and dedicated to Italian wines made with native grapes. Fot it, 18,000 wines were tasted, over 4,000 of which are presented and reviewed in the guide.
On November 7, 2009, at an event held at teatro Puccini, (Puccini Theater) during the opening day of the Merano International Wine Festival, the eighth annual guide entitled Vinibuoni d'Italia 2010 (Good Wines of Italy 2010), published by the Touring Club Italiano, was presented to the press and the general public.

Overall wine consumption in the U.S. rose 0.9% in 2008 to 294.7 million 9-liter cases, according to the Beverage Information Group's recently released 2009 Wine Handbook. Although the growth rate has slowed slightly, this marks the fifteenth consecutive year of case gains. Due to the current recessionary environment, consumers have become more frugal with their purchases, trading down toward value-priced wines both on-and off-premises.

On Thursday, August 27, 2009, the Federation des Exportateurs de Vin et Spiritueux de France (FEVS, or Federation of French Exporters of Wines and Spirits) announced that in the first half of the year exports totaled €3.28 billion, down from €4.35 billion (see values in other currencies) in the same period last year, with a plunge of over 25%.
