Weekend della Degustazione (WED, or Tasting Weekend)
Staff Writer - February 11, 2006

WED returns to Milan from March 16th to the 18th and introduces an excellent companion : the 'terroir' that produces the Bardolino and Custoza wines.

Weekend della Degustazione

After an encouraging debut abroad, in Lugano, Switzerland, the Weekend della Degustazione returns once again to its traditional location, Milan's Spazio Pelota in Palermo Street.

Once again wine lovers, curious folks, and professional operators and consumers will have the opportunity to meet 70 or so producers of quality wine. With an extended tasting table presenting over 300 labels, participants will have the opportunity to taste and purchase the bottles of their choice.

The previous event attracted around 5,600 visitors in the heart of Brera neighborhood, consecrating the the Weekend della Degustazione as the most visited public event in Milan. The tasting Weekend is the ideal meeting point for consumers and producers, offering an insight of the ever more varied wine world to both parties.

Thus, the various consortiums, institutions and producers' associations can take advantage of this expanded and crowded shopping opportunity to feel the current mood of the marketplace, while showing their product in a concrete and effective way at the same time.

This year WED has the pleasure of hosting two exceptional guests: Bardolino, a DOCG which is more appreciated in Europe than in Italy, and Custoza, a well appreciated, pleasant, aromatic white wine. The Consortium for the Preservation of Bardolino wine, the Consortium for the Preservation of Custoza wine, the Bardolino Wine Road and the Custoza Wine Road have decided to take advantage of the Milanese event to show these typical wines from the shores of Lake Garda to this wide and differentiated audience. Around 20 producers will be on hand to answer any questions that visitors might have about these wines.

As for the previous events, tasting courses will also be available to the public as well as a contest to whose winner a weeklong stay in a wine production zone will be awarded. The winner will 'adopt' a vineyard and will choose 12 bottles of a great wine from the area.
