Vinitaly China 2006, held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from November 23, to 25, 2006, opened with a ceremony, in the presence of the Italian Minister of Agriculture, Paolo De Castro, the chief representative of Italian Trade Committee in Shanghai, the deputy mayor of Shanghai, the leader of the Council for the Promotion Of International Trade Shanghai (CPIT SH), various Italian wine exhibitors, representative of the Chinese and international wine industry media, and professional buyers.

More than 130 Italian wineries, including large producers such as Zonin and Viticoltori Friulani La Delizia, among others, presented their quality wines. The exhibition attracted many professional visitors, who tatsted the wines and showed great interest. Some visitors also signed agreement with Italian producers for further cooperation.

Seminars and lectures on Italian food and wines from the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna regions attracted around 200 Chinese visitors, eager to learn more about Italian cuisine and wine culture.

In meeting the press, minister Paolo De Castro and other Italian officials spoke about the development and improvement of food trade agreements between China and Italy. They expressed optimism about the Chinese market, and said that the cooperation with the Chinese government in the fields of wine, food and agricultural products will continue to expand.
